Learn More about partnering with Billy

What does it mean to partner with me???

I conduct and publish research in the field of management for a living. To do this well, I need access to data in organizations. You run an organization and have questions that you need answered. Partnering is about me applying my research skills (at no labor cost) within the context of your organization so that we can help each other address our needs.

We will start with a no-obligation discussion around your business needs. What are the questions that you need answers to? Once we have figured that out, I will examine how those questions align with my areas of expertise and how we could use data to better understand the answers to your questions. If we identify a fit, we can move forward…if not, we can still be friends!!! Once we determine that a collaboration makes sense, we will work together to identify an approach that helps me contribute knowledge to my field while helping you get answers to important business questions.

Benefits to you!!!

As the project moves forward, I will provide you with ongoing updates that might be relevant to your business. At the end of the project, you will receive a summary report from me that outlines what we have learned about your organization and the question(s) that you need answers to. I will also provide a presentation of results and facilitate a discussion for you and selected members of your team. Best of all, you will receive all of this information from someone who was trained in a PhD program at an elite institution, routinely publishes research in top peer-reviewed business journals, and is building an international reputation for research methods expertise. In other words, you can trust the insights.

Costs

Are there really no costs associated with this?

I won’t charge you anything for labor. You will provide me with access to relevant data that I can use in my research. That is why I am able to do this without charging for labor. Because many projects only involve labor, many projects can be run with no direct costs.

Sometimes, there are other costs associated with research and those will be unique to each project. For example, if you wanted to know how to make your organization look like a more attractive employer, you may want to survey people outside of your organization and we would have to compensate them. Don’t worry about that right now…when we have our initial meeting, we can figure out those details.

There may also be some small, indirect costs to your business. For example, if we asked 500 employees to complete a 10-minute survey, the cost of that would be approximately 83 labor hours — (500*10)/60.

I will never ask you for any payments beyond direct, non-labor costs associated with the research (e.g., funds to compensate participants). However, if you are happy with the service I provide and would like to make a donation to my research account, I could guide you through how to do that, but this is NOT expected.

Data Confidentiality

Sometimes, when we learn about our organizations, we learn things that we don’t love —- like our employee job satisfaction is low!!! When we find these things out, we might not want the whole world to know about it, and that makes sense. Don’t worry, I will protect your organization’s identity. In my research, your organization will be described something like this, “a mid-sized pharmaceutical company in the United States…” In some cases, an organization may see themselves as industry leaders and want to share their identity. That’s okay too as long as that request is confirmed in writing.

I will also protect the identity of your employees. While I will present you with overall summaries of data, I cannot tell you who said what. I am legally required to have my research approved by our IRB (an ethics compliance board) and they are very strict about protecting participants and their right to confidentiality (rightfully so!!!).
